Prepare your fingers for swiping. A trustworthy source claims that when the OLED MacBook Pro is released in late 2026, Apple will initially add touchscreen functionality to the MacBook Pro.
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote on X that the less expensive MacBook, which is expected to start into production later this year, would not include a touchscreen. The second edition of the device, which is expected to go into production in 2027, is likely to gain a touchscreen, he added.
A request for comment was not immediately answered by an Apple official.
After seeing how users interact with their iPads for years, Kuo thinks Apple has come to the conclusion that “in certain scenarios, touch controls can enhance both productivity and the overall user experience.”
The information has not been verified by Apple. Kuo did, however, highlight a number of rumors that had materialized on Wednesday, such as the iPhone Air specifications, the Apple Watch Ultra 3, and the iPhone 17 Dynamic Island remaining the same size.
What will happen to the MacBook next?
The original MacBook was released by Apple about twenty years ago. Scott Stein of CNET thinks that the MacBook and iPad platforms will ultimately combine.
With 1.65 million followers, YouTuber Jon Rettinger concurs that the iPad and MacBook are “on a collision course with unity” and that customers are always searching for the next form factor and level of interactivity, in this instance a touchscreen.
The future of the iPadOS, according to Rettinger, is a major unknown given the combination of the devices and their operating systems.
“How will that continue to evolve?” “Rettinger said.” “While I do think we’ll see an eventual convergence, the iPad will always remain a media consumption machine first, leaving the actual work for the Mac.”
