Summer is quickly approaching as the temperature continues to rise. A hike is a fantastic opportunity to go outdoors and explore if you’re considering organizing some outdoor activities for you and other people to enjoy. Apple made several enhancements to its Maps app when it introduced iOS 18 in September. Now, before you go outdoors, you may map out a path for hiking or jogging.
Making your own path might help you stay on course and avoid getting lost in the great outdoors. Along with the distance of a route, this function may also tell you the elevation at each point along the way. In Denver, it probably simply reads, “Up there.”

Here’s how you use Apple Maps on your iPhone to create your own unique route.
Create a unique route with Apple Maps.
First, open maps.
2. To drop a pin, long press where you want to begin your path.
3. Press “More.”
Fourth, choose “Create a Custom Route.”
You must then touch around the map to design your path. The software will begin mapping your path as you touch junctions and landmarks, such as eateries and stores. For a more detailed method of planning your route, you may also touch junctions and unmarked areas on your map.
Additionally, you are not need to touch a spot close to your final route point. Once you choose “Create a Custom Route,” Maps will generate a route for you if you touch a place that is miles away. It’s crucial to remember Google Maps will discover a route that avoids breaking through walls like the Kool-Aid guy if you touch a spot that is miles away from where you begin your trek. In that sense, establishing a route is similar to using a map to get driving instructions.
Maps will also provide you with three route alternatives when you create your route: Close Loop, Out & Back, and Reverse. When you reverse flip your path, your starting point becomes the destination. With Out & Back, your route is mapped on top of itself, allowing you to start and finish on the same path. For circular routes, Close Loop also brings your journey to a close at the beginning.
After creating your route, you’ll be prompted to give it a name when you click Save. Next, press “Done.” You won’t have to worry about losing service while trekking in the bush since Maps will download your personalized route to your iPhone.
