iPhone AI Tip: You Can Copy Text From Photos With This Trick

If you have old family recipes, handwritten notes, or any other hard copy laying around, there’s a better way to digitize them. No, I’m not referring about snapping a picture or quickly adding the letter or recipe to an email after scanning it.

Let’s say someone wrote a number or an address on a sheet of paper. Most likely, your first reaction is to enter it into the Contacts app on your iPhone. You don’t have to do that, however, because of the iPhone’s Live Text function, which was introduced back in 2021. An AI-powered app called Live Text enables you to use your iPhone’s camera to copy and paste any text into a picture. Whether the content is handwritten or typewritten is irrelevant; what matters is that it be readable enough for the iPhone to recognize and read. This is the way to utilize it.

Here’s how to copy and paste text from a picture using live text:

1. Verify that iOS 15 or later is installed on your iPhone.

2. Focus on a topic that contains any text you want to duplicate. When a yellow outline appears around the text, Live Text has begun to function.

3. To interact with any text in the image, tap the Live Text icon located in the lower right corner.

4. Press down on the text you want to copy, just as you would in a text message or Notes.

5. Press Copy.

6. Copy and paste this content into a different program, such as Notes or Gmail.

Live Text can look for text in photos saved in the Photos app, much as Google Lens does. A phone number in a picture, for example, may be tapped to call the number, and a French phrase can be translated to English.

On smartphones, the ability to copy and paste text from a picture is not particularly new. Because of Google Lens, Android users may already be acquainted with this feature. Live Text differs somewhat from Google Lens, however, in that you may use your camera to choose, copy, and paste text in real time since the iPhone is programmed to identify relevant information. As previously mentioned, it is a useful productivity tool for digitizing handwritten notes or text from photos.
