2. Auckland’s Park Hyatt

$$$ | 2023 and 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards
In Wynyard Quarter, the docklands sector that was recently transformed into the America’s Cup home base, the Park Hyatt Auckland, which opens in 2021, towers above Waitematā Harbor like a glass palace. Among the most spacious in town, the 195 guest rooms include sleek decor designed by Conran & Partners London, interspersed with traditional Maori artwork. One may argue that the new establishment is now competing with the Hotel Britomart, which was the first five-star hotel in New Zealand, for the right to boast to the world’s jet-set population.

3.Pittsburgh’s Kimpton Hotel Monaco

In 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, $$ | Readers’ Choice Awards
This eccentric 248-room hotel might be a complete design catastrophe, with its soft blue velvet sofas, tongue-in-cheek artwork, lime-green tufted headboards, and brilliant yellow bird cage light fixtures, yet somehow, it all works. A minibar filled with fine local food, Frette linens, and even a yoga mat so you never have to go without your favorite downward-facing dogs and sun salutations are just a few of the thoughtful Kimpton offerings. Take a seat at one of the community tables in the Biergarten on the rooftop. There, you may play a friendly (although a little wobbly) game of cornhole with some strangers or munch on a salted pretzel with one hand while downing a strong local beer with the other. Try the hotel lounge’s wine hour or 24-hour full-menu room service if you want your wine with a side of silence. The Monaco receives particular credit for its PUBLIC loaner bikes and dog-friendly policies.
