In addition to revitalizing an abandoned Edwardian pile (the Mirror Room is amazing), the Rosewood London has helped re-establish Holborn as a popular destination for Londoners. This hotel’s entrances and exits are the most entertaining since they both require you to skip over a large cobblestone courtyard that was formerly used for horse-drawn carriages, a reminder of the hotel’s opulent beginnings. The communal rooms are all marble and mahogany with a neutral color scheme, and the audience is a sophisticated, well-to-do group with plenty of money to spare. The atmosphere is one of unbridled luxury for conventional taste sensibilities. The Holborn Dining Room has four restaurants, but the one you should definitely not miss is the pie, a delicacy that is very British and is eaten on a big red banquette seat.

This is one of the most recognizable hotels in London. The Savoy was the first hotel in Britain to have elevators and electric lighting, and it is still at the top of its game following a beautiful makeover during London’s COVID-19 shutdown. It is said to have been a favorite of Marilyn Monroe and Marlene Dietrich, who has a room named after her. Stepping past the top hats and tails of the doormen and onto the checkerboard floor of the stately, wood-paneled lobby will undoubtedly send a chill down your spine. With floor-to-ceiling windows offering expansive views of the Thames and south London, and classical décor with watercolors of landscapes in gilded frames, the rooms and suites are spacious and luxurious. The Savoy’s restaurants, from Simpsons on the Strand to the Savoy Grill, where Winston Churchill often dined, are opulent and delectable, and the Beaufort Bar offers a unique and popular place for an aperitif.

3. London Raffles at The OWO

Perhaps the most talked-about hotel in London this century is this one. The structure housed the War Office from 1906 until 1964, when D-Day was organized and Winston Churchill, as Secretary of State for War, bellowed out briefings to employees on the Grand Staircase. infamously, spies had a separate entrance. The Hinduja Group, located in Mumbai, acquired the building’s lease in 2016, made $1.9 billion in renovations, and hired Raffles. It took seven years to finish the 120 rooms and suites, four dining options, three bars, 27,000-square-foot Guerlain spa, and 65-foot underground pool. Grand state offices, such as the Haldane Suite (Churchill’s old office) with elegant red damask, have been converted into plum guest apartments. Three restaurants are run by Argentine chef Mauro Colagreco: Saison by Mauro Colagreco, the hotel’s Mediterranean eating area, a fine-dining establishment, and a private-table alternative. With its red velvet banquettes and an Aston Martin DB5 on the wall, the little Spy Bar, housed in a former interrogation room in the basement, is a great place for a nightcap while the Guard’s Bar is bustling with scheming politicians.
